Starting on March 1, 2017, California will begin to enforce
Assembly Bill (AB) 1732. The bill will require single-user toilet facilities in all business establishments, places of public accommodation, and government agencies to be universally accessible to all genders. The bill would authorize inspectors, building officials, or other local officials responsible for code enforcement to inspect for compliance.
As California transitions to a more progressive and accepting future, organizations have recognized the value of AB-1732 and what it means for the LGBT community. Online sign retailer
SmartSign and their sister-site,
MyDoorSign.com, have updated their entire selection of
California all-gender restroom signs to be compliant with Bill 1732. Sign thickness, Sintra material, ADA Braille, TactileTouch, and color schemes were considered thoroughly to ensure compliance with California law.

SmartSign and MyDoorSign has been supporting the equal restroom access movement since
2014 with donations and discounts of all-gender restroom signs to over 400 organizations across the country. There has been a significant uptick of all-gender restroom signs being purchased and requested in the past two years. Many cities across the nation realize the importance of equal access for everyone and have passed ordinances that require all-gender restrooms. In 2015, OSHA named gender-neutral single-occupancy restrooms as a best practice in the workplace.
